As we close out our 10 year celebrations, we’d like to celebrate one more major milestone. Matrix Construction Services is now celebrating 11 years! Our anniversaries are a big deal to us, but since so much of our 10 year celebrations were focused on our company culture and history, we figured this time we’d share some fun facts related to the number 11!
1. James K. Polk Was the 11th President
James K. Polk served as President of the United States from 1845 to 1849. His presidency is often associated with major westward expansion, including the acquisition of large parts of what became the western United States.
2. There Are 11 Pipers Piping
“Eleven pipers piping” is one of the classic gifts from “The 12 Days of Christmas.” The song has been around for centuries and remains one of the most recognizable holiday songs.
3. Football and Soccer Teams Have 11 Players
Football and soccer both put 11 players on the field for each team. While the sports are very different, both rely on teamwork, timing, and everyone knowing their role.
4. The Deepest Part of the Ocean Is About 11 Kilometers Deep
The deepest known part of the ocean is located in the Pacific Ocean. At nearly 11 kilometers deep, it is one of the most extreme and mysterious places on Earth.
5. Apollo 11 Was the First Mission to Land on the Moon
Apollo 11 made history when humans first walked on the moon. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin stepped onto the lunar surface while Michael Collins remained in orbit above them.
6. World War I Ended on the 11th Day, 11th Month, at the 11th Hour
The armistice ending World War I went into effect on November 11, 1918. Today, that date is still recognized in many countries as a time to honor those who served.
7. Sodium Is the 11th Element
Sodium is a chemical element commonly known for its role in salt. It is highly reactive on its own, but when combined with chlorine, it forms the table salt we use every day.
8. The Base of the Statue of Liberty Is an 11-Point Star
The Statue of Liberty stands on Fort Wood, a star-shaped base originally built as a military fort. Its unique shape is still visible today from above
9. Eleven Oscars Is the Record for a Movie
The 1997 film Titanic won 11 Academy Awards, tying the record for the most Oscars won by a single movie. It remains one of the most successful films in Academy Awards history.
10. Eleven Has Meaning in Tarot
In tarot, the number 11 is often connected to ideas like strength or justice, depending on the deck. Both cards are associated with balance, confidence, and inner resolve.
11. Matrix Originally Started with 11
When Matrix first started there were only 11 total employees. We’ve grown quite a lot since then!
